TBOPlayer is a fast and simple to use free Frontend/GUI user interface program for Omxplayer for Raspbian. Omxplayer is the default video and music player for Raspbian Linux. TBOPlayer uses jbaiter’s pyomxplayer wrapper to control omxplayer with TBOPlayer user interface program. But, omxplayer is harder to use for users who are not used to using the command lines in Raspbian Linux. TBOPlayer is made with the Python programming language, so it works on the Raspberry Pi after you installed it because Raspbian can can run Phython programs without the need to install other programs. TBOPlayer also runs very quickly on Raspbian. I never experience slowdown problems when using TBOPlayer to control Omxplayer when logged into the Raspbian desktop. TBOPlayer only takes a few seconds to open after I click on its desktop shortcut icon.
Omxplayer for Raspbian Linux for the Raspberry Pi is the only popular video and music media player which has hardware acceleration compared to other media players which are software accelerated. The hardware acceleration in Omxplayer makes playing video files a lot smoother because it uses the power of the videochip on the Raspberry Pi’s circuit board to play video instead of using slower software acceleration like other media player which usually have slow video problems when you try to play video on Raspbian with other video players. LibreOffice Calc is a free spreadsheet program which runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac. Calc is very fast and lightweight, so it can be even installed on older computers, and slower computers like the Raspberry Pi 2 which is a Linux based mini computer which uses a 900MHz mobile Processor, and has 1 GB of RAM. LibreOffice which comes with Calc is one of the pre-installed programs which comes with Raspbian Linux Jessie, and other Linux operating systems. Calc runs at a good speed on Raspbian when I use it on the Raspberry Pi 2.
Calc runs very fast, and does not slow down my computer when I use it. Calc starts up in a few seconds after I click on its desktop shortcut icon on my computer’s desktop. Most calculations in Calc are updated instantly when I type new numbers into spreadsheet cells. It is also very reliable when I use it on my computer because Calc rarely crashes, freezes, and cause other problems when I use it on my computer. [continue reading…]
