Epic Launcher free is a fast homescreen launcher for Google Android. It is similar to the Google Now Launcher found in Google Android 5.0 Lollipop.
It supports voice recognition Google 4.4 KitKat search called Google Now which uses OK Google to do different tasks. You can disable the Google Now page in Epic Launcher’s Desktop settings under the Allow swipe Right on first page where you un-check its setting to disable Google Now on Epic Launcher.
Epic Launcher is highly customizable where I can customize the look and size of icons, text, text color, wallpaper, the app drawer, status bar, and dock. Almost everything on Epic Launcher is customizable. You can also add and remove pages to the homescreen in Epic Launcher.
It also supports ADW launcher icon pack to change the look of icons.
To launch Google Now, you need to swipe your finger to the right on Epic Launcher.
You can change the number of rows and columns for shortcut icons in both the Homescreen, and All Apps App Drawer in Epic Launcher. It is also possible to hide shortcuts from appearing in the App Drawer.
There are different scrolling types like Infinite scrolling on desktop, drawer and dock, and Elastic scrolling on desktop, drawer and dock.
You can lock your desktop to prevent changes to how the desktop look.
Epic has a Scrollable dock, customizable dock pages and number of dock icons.
There is also a card stack animation for the homescreen and app drawer scrolling effect when you scroll horizontally across the homescreen and app drawer. You can also disable them in the settings.
It is also possible to change the App Drawer opening animation to fly, up and down, fade, lollipop, or none which turns off animations when opening the App Drawer.
You can Enable and Disable wallpaper scrolling, and Enable and Disable haptic feedback.
I like that it is possible to turn off animations, remove empty widgets shortcut text labels, the dock, Google Now, page indicator, and many other features in Epic Launcher which turns Epic Launcher into a very fast, and smooth running Google Android Launcher which runs very fast with no animations, and features slowing it down. By turning off all features you don’t need, you can quickly run Epic Launcher even on slower tablets and smartphones with 512MB RAM, and 1 GHz CPU.
It is also great that Epic Launcher does not come with bundled apps, placeholder fake widgets which recommend you install sms/text and mobile apps, and app recommendations for non-launcher related apps. Epic Launcher also has no ads.
Epic Launchers runs very fast, and does not crash or freeze when I use Epic Launcher on my Asus Nexus 7 2012 Google Android 5.1 Lollipop Wi-Fi tablet with a 1.3 GHz CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB. It also does not slow down my tablet, and does a good job of launching apps when I tap on App and Game shortcut icons on Epic Launcher’s homescreen and App Drawer. Epic uses about 19 MB of RAM when I check the cache running processes in Google Android Running App section in Google Android Settings.
Epic Launcher is easy to learn because adding shortcuts from the App Drawer is like the default Android homescreen launcher where I press and hold a shortcut to add it to my Homescreen launcher.
Epic Launcher is a fast alternative homescreen launcher which is similar to the Google Now Launcher. It is also very customizable where I can change the look of the launcher very easily by using icon packs, and changing the size of icons and icon text. I can change the animations as well in Epic Launcher.
Epic Launcher App file size is 1.1 M, and it works with Google Android 4.03 and up.
